Update Feb 2010

Hi to all those interested in Transition Keynsham!Apologies for it being a while since we last updated you but it has been a busy start to 2010!

WE ARE PLEASED TO SAY THAT OUR NEXT MEETING IS ON:

Wednesday 24th February, 6-9pm, Lansdown Hall, Wellsway School, Keysham.

To start there will be a film showing of ‘In Transition’ – The first detailed film about the Transition movement filmed by those that know it best, those who are making it happen on the ground. The Transition movement is about communities around the world responding to peak oil and climate change with creativity, imagination and humour, and setting about rebuilding their local economies and communities. After the film there will be a chance to catch up on what Transition Keynsham has been up to, have your say and get involved…

Suggested £2.50 to cover the £48 room hire as we have no external funding – no-one is turned away due to lack of funds.

Free tea/cake but please bring a mug!

THE FOOD GROUP

The food group have loads of news to tell, check out their page on the right-handside!

The next food group meeting is on the 30th March – 7.30pm.

If you are interested in anything to do with food – growing, production, distribution, cooking and of course eating, please do join us. Call or email Mary on 0117 986 2257 ormandd@gentlyblown.co.uk for the venue address.

 OTHER ACTIVITIES

The transitioners working on the bike maintenance workshop have applied for some fundraising for advertising and materials. We will let you know the outcome and we have now organised the candlelight entertainment evening for the 24th March – see above.

We have also been networking with lots of other community groups and individuals in and around Keynsham who all want to connect with Transition Keynsham in one way or another. It has been really inspiring to hear about the activities that people have been working so hard on already and ideas for future joint projects. We have had a lot of interest from people about starting a plastic bag free project in Keynsham, using recycled, fair-trade materials whilst also celebrating local shops and artistic talents – there will be an opportunity to talk about this at the next meeting.

LIBRARY SUGGESTIONS

Thank you to all the people who contacted us with suggested transition them ed books for the Keynsham library, I hope to be finalizing and handing the list in soon and fingers crossed some will become available to loan out.

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the emergence of spring!
